We’ve had a bit of an Indian Summer this past week in the UK. I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy it. We’re just a week away from the Autumn Equinox, when the days will get shorter and the temperatures will start to drop.
Colder weather can really wreak havoc with your skin, making it feel dried out. My hands get especially dry in the winter, which is why I use a great hand cream made by Jules of the Earth. It really works a treat on my hands, as do her other products for all over your body. I find they are less chapped, feel softer and retain more moisture than most hand creams. And it doesn’t leave my hands feeling sticky or as if there is a residue left behind.
I’ve found that our hands are one of the most neglected areas of the body when it comes to skin care. Our hands really do a lot for us. They cover a wide variety of functions:
- Manipulating object
Our hands are capable of performing precise and gentle actions, like writing, surgery, crocheting, drawing, or playing a musical instrument. They also do some hefty labour for us, such as digging in the garden, using tools and picking up heavy or abrasive objects. Our hands tell us whether something is hot or cold, rough or smooth, wet or dry. They are expressive when we talk and can bring comfort when needed.
Our hands really go through a lot, constantly working and undergoing the stresses of daily use, washing, the environment and harsh chemicals. And, just like the rest of our body, we need to look after them as well. This is why a good hand cream should be part of your daily regime, especially in the colder months, when flue season starts and we are using soaps and hand sanitizers that can dry out our hands.
Jules’s hand cream uses a mix of Sunflower, Sweet Almond and Evening Primrose oils:
- The Sunflower Oil in this deliciously luxuriant hand cream works to smooth the skin and bring back the natural moisture in your hands.
- The Sweet Almond Oil makes your skin feel soft, smooth and supple, encouraging the skins own natural healing processes.
- Evening Primrose Oil works by soaking down deep into the layers of your skin to protect against future dryness or conditions such as dermatitis even in the cold winter months.
Of course, its not all about hand cream when it comes to keeping our skin healthy overall. We need to make sure we are getting the right nutrients and keeping hydrated. To keep nails healthy for example, taking a biotin or B7 supplement can really help. For those who don’t get out a lot, a good D3 supplement can be a life saver. Little things, like wearing gloves to guard against the elements, or dish washing gloves to protect your hands from detergents can also go a long way in keeping your hands soft and moisturised.
A good hand cream should not only moisturise your hands, but help lock in that moisture and protect against ageing. As I mentioned above, Jules of the Earth’s hand cream product does just that and uses natural ingredients to boot! So, if you haven’t given it a try yet, I highly recommend it as part of your hand care regime. You can find it under her Core Range of products.
Join us here next week, when we’ll talk more about those oils mentioned above and why they are so beneficial to our skin!
